Desert Water Agency expands bill assistance for California residents

The Desert Water Agency has expanded its Help2Others program to provide increased financial assistance to low-income households in California's desert communities. Qualifying customers in Palm Springs and parts of Cathedral City can now receive a one-time $300 credit over a 12-month period, an increase from the previous $200 benefit.

The agency's board approved the increase during a June 16 meeting, with the new amount taking effect on July 1. Officials estimate the $300 credit is sufficient to cover approximately two months of a typical residential water bill. The program aims to prevent service shutoffs and alleviate the financial strain caused by rising utility rates and inflation.
