DESFA to implement natural gas pipeline to Patras

DESFA has announced the implementation of a high-pressure natural gas pipeline to connect Western Greece with the National Natural Gas Transmission System (ESMFΑ). Following a Final Investment Decision (FID) by the company's Board of Directors on September 24, 2026, the project aims to supply the Patras Industrial Zone and enhance regional energy security and industrial competitiveness.

The pipeline will span approximately 145 kilometers with a 20-inch diameter. It will originate in the Perivolia Megalopolis area and terminate at a metering/regulating station in the Patras Industrial Zone. The infrastructure will include six valve stations and is designed with future expansion in mind, including a potential branch toward Pyrgos.

Notably, the pipeline is designed to be compatible with future energy needs, featuring the capability to transport up to 100% hydrogen. This ensures the system can integrate renewable and low-carbon gases as part of the evolving energy landscape in Western Greece.
