Deshaun Watson faces speeding citation ahead of Browns season opener

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson faces a speeding citation after allegedly driving 86 mph in a 60 mph zone in August. Watson has pleaded not guilty, and a bench trial is scheduled for September 23.

This legal issue arrives as Watson prepares for his first regular-season start since an Achilles tendon tear in October 2024. He secured the starting position following a training camp competition against Shedeur Sanders and is set to lead the Browns against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the season opener.

Regarding Watson’s long-term future with the team, Browns general manager Andrew Berry noted that the quarterback is entering the final year of his contract. While Berry did not make specific promises about an extension, he stated that performance will be a major factor and that the organization is not ruling out future contract discussions.
