Desislava Ivancheva urges politicians not to weaponize her past in election campaign

Desislava Ivancheva has issued a plea via social media to prevent her personal history and suffering from being used as a political tool during the current election campaign. Writing from a hospital while battling severe pneumonia, Ivancheva noted that her name has resurfaced in political discourse following attacks against Iliana Yotova regarding the pardon of Ognyan Atanasov.

Ivancheva expressed sadness over the sudden interest from politicians, questioning where this concern was during her years of imprisonment. She cited long-term health issues—including asthma and infections—as a direct consequence of the conditions she faced while in custody, such as mold and dampness. She emphasized that her past struggles, including being separated from her child and mother, should not be exploited for political gain.
