Desola Afod has issued a formal apology to the Nollywood film industry following a social media controversy involving her remarks about Yoruba theatre practitioners. The tension began when Afod expressed frustration over colleagues allegedly failing to show her proper respect due to her age and status, using language that many perceived as a sweeping generalization of the industry.

Actress Wunmi Toriola challenged Afod’s comments, describing them as insulting and disrespectful to the profession. Toriola urged Afod to name specific individuals rather than making broad statements that could undermine the reputation of the Yoruba entertainment industry, which she noted has been vital to her career.

In a subsequent social media post, Afod apologized to all practitioners, acknowledging that she spoke in anger and that her choice of words was inappropriate. She stated that while she intended to address a specific group, she takes full responsibility for the unintended generalization and expressed a desire for forgiveness from senior colleagues and elders in the industry.
