DESOPADEC opens 2026 bursary portal for Delta State students
The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) has officially launched its 2026 bursary scheme for eligible university students residing within its mandate areas in Delta State. The commission unveiled an online application portal on Tuesday, September 1, to facilitate the registration process.
Chief Favour Izuokumor, the Executive Director of Social Services, stated that the initiative resulted from consultations with student representatives from oil-producing ethnic nationalities. To qualify, applicants must provide specific documentation, including a recent passport photograph, student identity card, admission letter, local government certificate of origin, and a letter from their respective ethnic nationality student union.
Izuokumor warned that incomplete applications or multiple submissions would lead to disqualification. Currently, the scheme is restricted to university students; students in polytechnics and colleges of education are excluded from this specific phase. The commission expects to complete the verification process in October, with payments projected to begin in November. Additionally, DESOPADEC plans to launch annual skill empowerment programs for youths and women in its mandate areas before the end of the year.
