Despierta Bierzo Despierta launches new regionalist political party

Despierta Bierzo Despierta (DBD), a new regionalist political formation, has been officially presented in Ponferrada. Led by president José Manuel Barrios, the party aims to run candidates in all municipalities within the Bierzo region.

The party is aligned with the national political project Despierta, a partnership intended to provide the regional movement with greater national reach and influence. Barrios emphasized that the group focuses on management and results rather than traditional political careerism.

Key pillars of the party's platform include combating demographic decline by creating jobs and improving infrastructure to retain young people. Additionally, the party has raised significant concerns regarding the local healthcare system, specifically criticizing the deterioration of Hospital El Bierzo, the shortage of specialists, and long waiting lists. They also advocate for maintaining rural medical clinics to ensure local access to healthcare.
