Dessau-Wörlitzer Gartenreich to host traditional autumn drag hunt

The Dessau-Wörlitzer Gartenreich will host a traditional autumn drag hunt on September 19, 2026, organized by the Mecklenburger Meute. The event commemorates the 290th anniversary of Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff, a key figure in German Classicism and a close advisor to the Anhalt-Dessau princes.

The festivities include a gathering at the Leiner Berg forest house, hunting horn performances, and a ceremony at the Solitäreichen-Wiese near Schloss Luisium. This tradition of parforce hunting in the region dates back to the 18th century.

Beyond Dessau, the state of Sachsen-Anhalt offers various historical green spaces for visitors. Notable locations include the Schlosspark Krumke in Altmark, which features one of Europe’s oldest boxwood hedges, and the Landschaftspark Großkühnau near Dessau-Roßlau, known for its vineyard castle and lake. Other sites include the Elbauenpark in Magdeburg and the Harbker Wald near Helmstedt.
