Dessel evaluates Kruisberg traffic measures after 1,100 speeding violations
Authorities in Dessel are evaluating new traffic safety measures for the Kruisberg area following a series of speed limit violations. Between July 30 and August 13, 2026, LIDAR speed measurements revealed nearly 1,100 violations over a two-week period.
During the monitoring period, more than 22,000 passenger cars and approximately 600 trucks passed the location. While the speed limit is 50 km/h, recorded speeds reached up to 94 km/h for cars and 56 km/h for trucks. Mobility Alderman Herman Minnen stated that the municipality will work with the police to determine if additional measures, such as adjusted speed limits, are necessary to improve safety.
The Kruisberg road has a history of serious accidents, including instances where vehicles crashed into residential homes.
