Detran-BA offers 20,000 free driver's licenses in Bahia

The Bahia State Transit Department (Detran-BA) is launching a new selection process through the ‘CNH da Gente’ program, offering 20,000 free driver's licenses. Applications will be accepted exclusively online from October 1 to October 15, 2026.

The program is available to residents of all municipalities in Bahia and covers categories A (motorcycles) and B (automobiles). The benefit includes the costs for registration, physical and mental aptitude exams, psychological evaluations, theoretical courses and exams, practical lessons, and the driving test.

To qualify, applicants must be over 18 years old, literate, and residents of Bahia. Candidates must possess a CPF and be registered in the Federal Government's Single Registry for Social Programs (CadÚnico), with records updated by May 8, 2026. The program is strictly for first-time drivers; individuals who already hold a license or have an ongoing licensing process are ineligible.
