Detran-DF issues vehicle safety guidelines for holiday travel
The Department of Transit of the Federal District (Detran-DF) has released safety recommendations for drivers planning travel during long holiday periods. To ensure road safety, authorities advise conducting thorough vehicle inspections before departure, focusing on lighting systems, brakes, windshield wipers, engine oil levels, tires, spare tires, and lug wrenches.
Drivers are also reminded to use proper safety equipment, such as helmets for motorcyclists and seatbelts or appropriate child restraint systems for passengers. Pets should be secured in dedicated compartments or with appropriate restraint devices, and luggage must be stored in designated areas to avoid obstructing driver visibility or passenger safety.
During rainy conditions, Detran-DF emphasizes the need for increased caution due to wet asphalt and reduced visibility. Recommendations include reducing speed, increasing following distances, and using air conditioning or defoggers to maintain clear windows.
