DetranRS enables credit card payments for vehicle debts

The Rio Grande do Sul State Department of Transit (DetranRS) has introduced a new feature allowing taxpayers to pay vehicle-related debts using a credit card. This service includes the payment of the Vehicle Property Tax (IPVA), vehicle fees, and overdue traffic fines.

The system is the result of an integration between the DetranRS Service Center and the payment platform of the Federal Data Processing Service (Serpro). Users can choose to pay in installments of up to 12 months, subject to market interest rates determined by the partner company.

To ensure security, the service utilizes the Gov.br account for user identification and employs rigorous identity validations, such as biometric verification, to confirm the cardholder's identity. The system also cross-references various databases, including the Brazilian Driver's License (CNH) and banking records, to verify authenticity.
