Detransitioners File Nationwide Medical Malpractice Lawsuits in US

Individuals who have reversed gender‑affirming treatments are suing for medical malpractice across the United States. Law firm Campbell Miller Payne, headed by founding partner Josh Payne, is representing dozens of detransitioners alleging that doctors and therapists misrepresented the benefits and downplayed the risks of procedures such as hormone therapy and surgeries.

A jury awarded $2 million to a detransitioner in February, and psychiatrists settled a separate claim in Oregon in January. The Texas Supreme Court recently reversed a lower‑court ruling, holding that the statute‑of‑limitations clock starts when the injury occurs, not when a therapist recommends the procedure, a decision Payne called a “landmark victory” that could affect other cases. The firm continues to track additional lawsuits as other states confront similar limitations and liability questions.
