Detroit community mourns after woman fatally stabbed during lunch break

A community in downtown Detroit is mourning the death of 34-year-old Jaquoya Wix, who was fatally stabbed on a Sunday afternoon. The attack occurred while Wix was on a lunch break outside a Chipotle restaurant.

A staff member at the nearby business witnessed the incident and assisted in apprehending the suspect. Local business owners expressed concern regarding the tragedy, noting that while they frequently encounter aggressive individuals, the physical violence of this incident is particularly distressing.

Business leaders highlighted ongoing concerns regarding mental health and public safety in the downtown area. A vigil was scheduled for Monday night outside the location of the attack to honor Wix’s life.
