Detroit hit by first tornado in nearly 30 years

Severe storms and tornadoes struck Southeastern Michigan between September 2 and September 3, marking the first confirmed tornado in the city of Detroit since 1997. The National Weather Service reported an EF-2 tornado on the east side of Detroit, along with EF-0 tornadoes in Marysville and Lincoln Park.

The storms produced damaging winds of 60-70 mph, large hail exceeding 2 inches in diameter, and widespread straight-line wind damage. These conditions resulted in nearly 300,000 power outages across the region. As of September 7, cleanup efforts continue across Metro Detroit as residents deal with downed trees, power lines, and lingering outages. DTE officials indicated that restoration efforts were ongoing to return power to thousands of customers.
