Detroit Lions center Cade Mays sidelined with wrist fracture

Detroit Lions center Cade Mays will miss a significant portion of the upcoming season after suffering a fractured bone in his wrist during a training camp practice. Head coach Dan Campbell described the injury as a “freak” accident occurring during a protection rep. While no official timeline was provided, reports suggest Mays could be sidelined for approximately eight to 10 weeks.

The injury is part of a broader wave of ailments hitting the Lions roster. Running back Isiah Pacheco is also sidelined with an MCL sprain, though he is expected to return sooner than Mays. Additionally, Juice Scruggs is currently dealing with a soft-tissue injury.

To address the vacancy at center, the Lions are evaluating several depth options. Seth McLaughlin, an undrafted free agent, has taken significant repetitions with the starting unit and is expected to start in the preseason opener against the Cincinnati Bengals. Other potential contributors include Michael Niese and Tate Ratledge.
