Detroit Lions cut cornerback Terrion Arnold amid felony charges

The Detroit Lions released first‑round draft pick Terrion Arnold after his June 24 arrest on felony armed‑robbery and kidnapping charges in Florida. Coach Dan Campbell called the move "unfortunate" but necessary, saying the team addressed the decision with players before training camp. Campbell added that the Lions are confident in their remaining secondary, citing cornerbacks D.J. Reed, Rock Ya‑Sin and Ennis Rakestraw Jr., as well as a recent fifth‑round pick Keith Abney II. Arnold, the No. 24 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft from Alabama, played two seasons with Detroit, recording 91 tackles, 18 passes defensed and one interception. He is awaiting trial, and a judge set his bail at $1 million. Campbell emphasized that the roster will compete for the open cornerback slot and expressed optimism about the team’s depth heading into the season.
