Detroit Lions defensive coordinator dismisses injury excuses

Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard has dismissed suggestions that injuries are responsible for the team’s defensive struggles. The Lions' defense has allowed 71 points over the first two games of the season, facing significant personnel shortages in the secondary. Key players Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch are currently on the PUP list, and Avonte Maddox suffered a season-ending injury in Week 2.

Sheppard stated that blaming injuries is for ‘losers’ and emphasized his focus on the resources currently available to the team. He noted that while the staff would prefer All-Pro caliber players, he can only control the personnel he is given.

In related matchup news, New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson expressed anticipation for his upcoming game against former teammate and friend, Lions cornerback D. J. Reed. Wilson highlighted the competitive history and friendship shared with Reed, noting that this will be the first time the two face each other as opponents.
