Detroit Lions evaluate defensive coaching and trade options

The Detroit Lions are facing defensive challenges during their 2-2 start to the season, with the unit currently ranking 31st in points allowed and 32nd in EPA/play. Head coach Dan Campbell addressed rumors regarding the potential addition of a senior defensive assistant to support coordinator Kelvin Sheppard. While Campbell stated he has not considered such a move at this moment, he noted that the upcoming bye week could provide an opportunity to reassess the coaching staff.

In addition to coaching concerns, the Lions' secondary is struggling due to injuries to Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph. NFL insiders have identified potential trade targets to bolster the defensive backfield, including Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Kristian Fulton and Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Jalen Ramsey. While a deal for Fulton is considered a possible option, the team's defensive stability remains a primary focus heading into their matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.
