The Detroit Lions have hired former Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing, replacing John Morton after one season. Quarterback Jared Goff described the hire as a “home run,” praising Petzing’s intelligence, versatility and ability to balance the run and pass game.

Separately, the Lions are reportedly preparing a major contract extension for running back Jahmyr Gibbs. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said Gibbs could command about $20 million per year, potentially resetting the running back market and making him the highest‑paid back in NFL history. The negotiations are expected to intensify in the weeks leading up to training camp, especially as the team also assesses Bijan Robinson’s pending deal.
