Detroit Lions players show progress during training camp scrimmage

The Detroit Lions continue their training camp preparations with a scrimmage-style practice ahead of their second preseason game against the Washington Commanders. Head coach Dan Campbell indicated that a significant number of starters may participate in the upcoming matchup.

Defensive back Ennis Rakestraw delivered a standout performance during Monday’s scrimmage, recording an interception and a tackle for loss, which served as a response to recent criticisms regarding his standing in the secondary. Additionally, defensive tackle Levi Onwuzurike has received praise from Campbell for his health and power following a previous season lost to injury.

On the offensive side, the team continues to evaluate its offensive line. While rookie Blake Miller has shown consistency, the unit faces challenges due to injuries, including center Cade Mays being sidelined for significant time. The team also noted injuries to wide receiver Jameson Williams and cornerback Nick Whiteside, though neither is expected to be serious.
