Detroit Lions assess lineup and trade options before 2026 training camp

The Detroit Lions are shaping their roster ahead of the 2026 training camp. General manager Brad Holmes has explored depth options, including a workout with former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Cornell Powell, who posted strong numbers in the UFL.

A three‑team trade proposal involving the Lions, New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots was outlined, suggesting Detroit would receive defensive tackle Eric Gregory and a 2027 seventh‑round pick from the Patriots in exchange for safety Avonte Maddox headed to the Saints.

The Lions also added interior offensive lineman Juice Scruggs, acquired in the David Montgomery trade, to compete for the left‑guard spot alongside veterans Ben Bartch, Cade Mays and Larry Borom. Scruggs, a former second‑round pick, brings versatility across the interior line as the team seeks depth and flexibility on offense.
