Detroit man charged with murder in random stabbing of Chipotle worker

Devon Jason Watson, 42, has been charged with first-degree premeditated murder following the fatal stabbing of Jaquoya Wix, 34, in Detroit. Wix, a mother from St. Clair Shores, was on a break from her job at a Chipotle restaurant when she was attacked in an alleyway near Woodward Avenue.

Prosecutors state that the attack appeared to be random, as Wix and Watson did not know one another. Prosecutor Kym Worthy noted that Watson “planned out his acts before he acted,” despite his history of mental health issues. Following the incident, workers from a nearby business assisted in tracking the suspect, who was subsequently apprehended by police.

The victim's family and Detroit officials are scheduled to hold a press conference to discuss the case. Loved ones have gathered at the site of the incident to honor Wix, describing her as a resilient person and a dedicated mother.
