Detroit Metro Times halts candidate interviews over alleged falsehoods
The Detroit Metro Times has announced a rare editorial decision to stop seeking comments from U.S. Senate candidate Mike Rogers. The publication cited a pattern of what it described as repeated lies and bigoted attacks by the Rogers campaign.
Investigative reporter Steve Neavling stated that the decision was made because the campaign has consistently shared inaccurate or contradictory information. Specific claims highlighted by the publication include Rogers’ statements regarding Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed’s views on the September 11 attacks, his alleged involvement in the Navy SEAL Team 6 raid, and his assertions concerning El-Sayed’s stance on breast cancer research and the Muslim Brotherhood.
Neavling noted on social media that the move marks the first time in the publication's history that they would cease interviewing a candidate due to these specific behaviors.
