Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison under investigation

Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison is under investigation by the city’s Office of Inspector General (OIG). The probe follows reports that Bettison contacted citizens to request the removal of social media posts.

The investigation involves actions taken regarding posts made by activist Jahdante Smith and businessman Marvin Walker. Walker, a former romantic partner of Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield, had been the subject of social media posts involving images of the mayor. Bettison has admitted to asking both individuals to remove the photos.

Former Detroit Police Chief James Craig commented on the situation, stating that Bettison should not have become involved in the mayor’s personal matters. Craig noted that the OIG will determine if the chief committed misconduct in office or improperly used department resources.
