Detroit Red Wings eye offensive upgrades and prospect development

The Detroit Red Wings are facing roster decisions and potential acquisitions as the NHL season approaches. NHL insider Pierre LeBrun has suggested Patrik Laine as a possible fit for Detroit to address offensive needs following the loss of Patrick Kane. Laine, a former 44-goal scorer, offers significant shooting ability from distance, though concerns remain regarding his health and consistency after missing time due to injury last season.

Meanwhile, the team is evaluating the development of defenseman prospect Axel Sandin Pellikka. While Sandin Pellikka demonstrated offensive potential last season with seven goals, head coach Derek McLellan noted that the prospect must master his defensive responsibilities to secure a full-time role on the roster. Currently, the Red Wings' defensive depth is occupied by players such as Moritz Seider, Simon Edvinsson, Justin Faulk, and Ben Chiarot.
