Detroit Red Wings place defenseman Jacob Bernard-Docker on waivers
The Detroit Red Wings have placed defenseman Jacob Bernard-Docker on waivers. The 26-year-old, a former first-round pick by the Ottawa Senators in 2018, has not appeared in an NHL game this season despite being activated from injured reserve on October 8.
Bernard-Docker played 63 games for Detroit last season, recording one goal and four assists while providing a physical presence with 87 blocked shots and 66 hits. He is currently under a two-year, $3.2 million contract that carries a $1.6 million annual cap hit through the 2027-28 season.
Because he is not waiver-exempt, Detroit must place him on waivers before assigning him to the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins. Other teams have until Sunday afternoon to claim him. The move comes as Detroit manages a deep defensive roster that includes players such as Anton Johansson and Andreas Englund.
