Detroit Tigers promote Javier Báez and designate catcher Jake Rogers

Veteran infielder Javier Báez returned from the injured list and was placed in center field for the Detroit Tigers, opening a roster spot for young catcher Eduardo Valencia. At the same time, the Tigers designated veteran catcher Jake Rogers for assignment, removing him from the 40‑man roster and making his remaining salary available for other moves.

During Báez’s rehab stint with Triple‑A Toledo, Tigers top prospect Max Clark praised the veteran’s energy, leadership and willingness to mentor younger players, describing him as “the coolest, best teammate” he’d ever played with. Clark’s comments highlight Báez’s positive clubhouse influence beyond his on‑field performance.
