Detroit Tigers Brett Callahan MLB debut Triple-A Toledo Trei Cruz

The Detroit Tigers have promoted outfielder Brett Callahan from Triple-A Toledo to the major league roster. The 24-year-old, a 13th-round pick from St. Joseph’s University in 2023, is set to make his MLB debut playing left field and batting seventh in a game against the Chicago White Sox.

To make room for Callahan on the active and 40-man rosters, the Tigers have designated outfielder Trei Cruz for assignment. Cruz, a 28-year-old switch-hitter, had recently returned to the team in August but saw limited playing time.

Callahan joins the roster following injuries to Kerry Carpenter, Riley Greene, and James Outman. During the current season, Callahan has demonstrated significant speed and power in the minor leagues, recording 29 stolen bases and hitting 12 home runs while playing for the Double-A Erie SeaWolves.
