Seattle Mariners reliever Gabe Speier suspended after hitting Tigers' Gleyber Torres

On August 5, 2026, the Seattle Mariners defeated the Detroit Tigers 4‑2 at T‑Mobile Park. Starter Bryan Woo threw seven scoreless innings but hit three Tigers batters. In the eighth inning, reliever Gabe Speier intentionally threw at Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres, striking him on the thigh. The pitch sparked a benches‑clearing incident; both Speier and Mariners manager Dan Wilson were ejected. Earlier in the seventh, Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh had been hit by a pitch from Tigers left‑hander Enmanuel De Jesús. Major League Baseball later announced a three‑game suspension and an undisclosed fine for Speier, who has appealed the discipline, and a one‑game suspension for Wilson. The suspensions will be served in the series finale on Thursday, with the Mariners playing short‑handed until the penalty is enforced.
