Detroit Tigers struggle with 1-5 week amid playoff race

The Detroit Tigers faced a difficult week, going 1-5 and falling further behind in the American League Central playoff race. The slump began with a three-game sweep at the hands of the Kansas City Royals, including an 11-7 loss on Sunday where the Tigers failed to capitalize on bases-loaded opportunities.

Following the series in Kansas City, the Tigers struggled at Comerica Park against the Tampa Bay Rays. Although Max Clark hit a two-run home run to help secure a 4-1 victory and snap a six-game losing streak, the team subsequently lost 3-0 to a shutout. The Tigers have now lost eight of their last ten games.

As the season approaches September, the club is evaluating roster expansions. Potential call-ups for the two additional roster spots include pitcher Beau Brieske and infielder Jace Jung. These moves are viewed as strategic opportunities to evaluate talent for the 2027 roster.
