Detroit Tigers weigh Javier Báez return as rehab continues

Javier Báez has been on the 60‑day injured list since June 11 after missing action since April 29. He is rehabbing with the Triple‑A Toledo Mud Hens, where he recorded three doubles in his latest game. Manager A.J. Hinch said Báez “needs more time on rehab, but if he has another game like yesterday, who knows?” Hinch also noted uncertainty about Báez visiting Detroit, saying the player may come to his office eager to play, prompting the team to “keep him under control.” The Tigers are cautious about activating Báez until they see consistent performance and health in center field, as his return could bolster the roster during a crucial stretch of the season.

The update was provided ahead of Detroit’s series with the Kansas City Royals, emphasizing that while Báez shows signs of progress, the decision to bring him back will depend on further rehabilitation results and the team’s playoff aspirations.
