Deutsche Aircraft receives automated logistics center in Leipzig/Halle
Jungheinrich has officially handed over a newly constructed automated logistics center to Deutsche Aircraft at the Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany. The facility is designed to support the production and final assembly of the D328 Eco turboprop regional aircraft.
The center utilizes a unique combination of two automation systems under a single control unit: a PowerCube small-parts compact storage system and an AutoVNA automated very narrow aisle warehouse. The PowerCube covers approximately 210 square meters, providing over 6,500 container storage locations across 26 levels. The connected narrow aisle warehouse offers capacity for 624 pallet positions.
This integrated system aims to reduce component lead times and minimize manual transport by linking small parts and larger pallets directly to the assembly lines. The facility is part of a digital, paperless “Factory 4.0” initiative. As Deutsche Aircraft prepares for serial production, which aims for an annual capacity of up to 48 aircraft, the site is expected to create between 250 and 350 jobs.
