Deutsche Bahn announces major rail disruptions and construction closures

Deutsche Bahn is implementing several rail service disruptions across Germany due to extensive construction projects. In the Lüdenscheid region, lines RB 25 and RB 52 will be replaced by buses from Friday morning through Monday morning due to urgent track and bridge work. The RB 52 service is specifically affected by ongoing bridge work in Hagen-Dahl, which prevents trains from being refueled during the closure.

On a larger scale, a major high-speed line closure between Berlin and Hannover is scheduled to begin on October 2, 2026, lasting for over 14 months. This corridor renovation will significantly increase travel times; for example, the journey from Berlin to Hannover is expected to rise from approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes to roughly three hours. Long-distance services to Amsterdam will also face delays and route changes via Hamburg-Harburg. The passenger advocacy group Pro Bahn has criticized the planned replacement services as “completely unacceptable,” warning of “catastrophic conditions” for commuters in regions such as Wolfsburg, Rathenow, and Stendal.
