Deutsche Bahn expands Mannheim-Karlsruhe line amid service disruptions
Deutsche Bahn is undertaking significant infrastructure projects and maintenance work in the Mannheim-Karlsruhe region. As part of the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2030, a major expansion project aims to add two additional tracks to the existing line between Mannheim and Karlsruhe to increase capacity for European passenger and freight traffic.
In the immediate term, construction work involving tracks, cables, and bridges is causing major service disruptions. From August 29 to September 11, direct ICE connections between Karlsruhe and Munich will be suspended. Travelers must detour via Mannheim, increasing travel times by 30 to 45 minutes. Additionally, Bruchsal will be largely disconnected from long-distance services, and regional transport between Karlsruhe and Pforzheim will face cancellations.
