Deutsche Bahn faces increasing delays and unreliability in Swabia

Rail services in the Swabia region of Germany are facing increasing unreliability due to a combination of poor planning, aging infrastructure, and heat-related damage. Eberhard Rotter, a representative for the lobby group Allianz pro Schiene, has noted that train delays and cancellations have reached unprecedented levels compared to previous decades.

In the Allgäu region, frequent and overlapping construction projects have disrupted travel to major hubs like Munich, Augsburg, and Ulm. The rail company Arverio has advised Oktoberfest visitors to travel via Augsburg rather than attempting direct routes from Allgäu due to these disruptions.

Additionally, heatwaves have damaged tracks on the Riesbahn line between Donauwörth and Aalen. In certain sections, such as near Wörnitzstein, speed limits have been reduced from 100 km/h to just 20 km/h. DB Infragov has indicated that full repairs may take months, as certain essential maintenance work can only be performed during the cooler temperatures of autumn.
