Deutsche Bahn launches family‑focused summer ticket program

Germany’s national rail operator, Deutsche Bahn, introduced a new DB Familienticket for the 2026 summer holidays. The ticket offers a flat‑rate price of €99.99 for a round‑trip in second‑class ICE or IC trains for up to five people, with a mandatory child passenger; a one‑way trip costs €59.99. Seat reservations for up to five passengers are included. The offer is available for bookings from 14 June 2026 and covers travel between 26 June and 14 September.

In parallel, the company lowered prices for young travelers: the Super Sparpreis Young tickets start at €4.99 (down to €3.74 with a BahnCard discount), and the Jugend BahnCard 25 is provided free of charge for ages 6‑18, granting a 25 % discount on standard fares until 30 September. Starting in August, Deutsche Bahn will also run a “Junior Express” service on selected long‑distance routes between Munich, Cologne, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Berlin, offering supervised travel for children aged 6‑14 on Fridays and Sundays.

The initiatives aim to make rail travel more affordable for families and youth during a period of high fuel and airfare costs.
