Deutsche Bahn opens Munich construction site to showcase massive tunnel boring machine

Deutsche Bahn and the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Tunnel Hauptbahnhof (ATH) are opening the construction site for Munich’s second trunk line to the public on September 12 and 13.

The event features the tunnel boring machine ‘Donna Maria’, which measures 178 meters in length and weighs 700 tons. Before the machine begins its work deep beneath the city, visitors can observe it up close and learn from experts about the technical challenges of tunnel construction in a densely populated urban area.

Admission is free and no prior registration is required. The site is located at Richelstraße 1c, with entry available from 10:00 to 17:00. Organizers recommend that visitors wear sturdy footwear. The open house includes a program designed for families.
