Deutsche Bahn reintroduces permanent family ticket

Deutsche Bahn is reintroducing a permanent “Familienticket” starting November 1, following a successful trial during the summer holidays. The ticket costs 99.99 euros for a round trip and includes seat reservations for up to five people.

Under the new terms, the ticket covers a maximum of two adults and up to three children. Notably, Deutsche Bahn defines an adult as anyone aged 15 or older. The ticket is valid for second-class travel on long-distance trains nationwide, though local transport to stations may require an additional fee.

Certain restrictions apply: travelers are bound to the specific booked train, and availability is limited by quotas to ensure sufficient seat capacity. Federal Transport Minister Steffen Bilger, while not involved in the decision-making process, expressed his approval of the offer, noting that Deutsche Bahn operates autonomously in its corporate decisions.
