Deutsche Bahn faces 34 million euros in annual vandalism damages
Deutsche Bahn incurred approximately 34 million euros in damages due to vandalism over the past year, according to data from the Federal Ministry of Transport. The costs are distributed across several categories, including 19.6 million euros for infrastructure damage and 5.5 million euros resulting from the theft of non-ferrous metals.
Graffiti removal on railway facilities cost 3.7 million euros. In the regional transport sector, vandalism-related costs reached roughly 12 million euros, with a significant portion attributed to graffiti. Long-distance transport division costs for vandalism amounted to about 2.25 million euros.
The ministry reported 657 graffiti offenses and 220 instances of property damage to or within vehicles, such as scratched windows, stickers, and damaged interior seating. To combat these issues, Deutsche Bahn has implemented a cleanliness program involving more than 40 mobile technician teams tasked with cleaning stations and removing graffiti.
