Deutsche Bahn reports surge in demand for new last‑minute low‑price tickets

Deutsche Bahn launched the "Super Sparpreis Last Minute" fare on 9 May, offering ICE tickets at prices starting from €6.99. The tickets are released at midnight for the following week and are limited to routes with low occupancy. Customers must act quickly, as availability depends on a small, unclear quota that can run out within hours.

Demand for the new tickets has risen sharply ahead of the Pentecost weekend, with the railway reporting a large number of bookings. A company spokesperson said travellers are attracted by the price certainty the rail service provides amid fluctuating fuel prices. However, the rollout has faced criticism for the lack of clarity on which routes and times the discounted tickets are offered, especially during popular holiday periods.

The limited supply and the need to secure tickets at short notice mean that passengers often need to check the DB app or website at midnight, with early‑morning or late‑evening slots offering the best chance of success.
