A failure in the GSM‑R digital radio communication system halted all Deutsche Bahn (DB) trains across Germany on the night of 23 June 2026. The outage, triggered during a component replacement, immobilised ICE, regional, S‑Bahn and urban services as well as trains of the private operator Metronom. Thousands of passengers were stranded, queues formed at stations and DB offered emergency vouchers for taxis and hotels while crews worked to stabilise the network.

DB’s chief executive Evelyn Palla said the priority was to bring trains to stations, unload passengers and then locate and fix the fault. The problem was declared resolved in the early hours of 24 June, and services began to resume gradually, with the first trains running again later that morning. DB continues to monitor the system as operations return to normal.
