Deutsche Bahn shifts focus to German market and dissolves E.C.O. Group

Deutsche Bahn is undergoing a strategic realignment under its ‘DB 2035’ strategy, focusing its core operations on the German market and scaling back global railway operations. As part of this shift, the DB E.C.O. Group was organizationally dissolved on August 1. Niko Warbanoff, the CEO of both DB E.C.O. Group and DB International Operations GmbH, will step down from his position on October 1 to pursue new professional challenges.

Moving forward, Deutsche Bahn intends to maintain an international presence exclusively through the engineering and consulting services provided by DB Engineering & Consulting GmbH. This division will continue its current service offerings both internationally and within Germany.

In the region of Lausitz, the ICE maintenance plant in Cottbus faces ongoing structural challenges. Despite recent announcements regarding expansions and potential job creation, the facility has seen a significant reduction in staff, dropping from approximately 2,000 employees to around 500 following years of rationalization and the relocation of production to other sites.
