Deutsche Bahn to close Nuremberg-Ingolstadt high-speed line for repairs

DB InfraGO has announced a major closure of the high-speed rail line between Nuremberg and Ingolstadt for essential modernization works. The closure will begin on October 30 at 10:00 PM and continue through December 12.

Due to the high speeds of up to 300 km/h and the heavy volume of approximately 170 daily trains, the tracks require replacement after 20 years of intensive use. The project, costing approximately 70 million euros, includes installing more than 160 kilometers of new rail, renewing switches, inspecting tunnels, and cleaning drainage systems.

Long-distance travelers will face delays of about 45 minutes as ICE trains are diverted via Augsburg and Donauwörth. While hourly connections toward Berlin from Munich will be maintained, services via Kassel to Hamburg will be reduced to every two hours. Regional services, including the RE 1 and S5, will be replaced by shuttle buses serving stations such as Allersberg, Kinding, and Ingolstadt Nord.
