Deutsche Bahn to provide technical expertise for Greek railway projects

Greece is accelerating its railway infrastructure projects, marked by a nearly €49 million contract with DB Engineering & Consulting, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn. The partnership, expected to begin in October, aims to provide technical management and expertise to enhance operational capacity and system development within the Greek rail network.

A major priority involves the €450 million restoration of the central rail network following the damage caused by Storm Daniel in 2023. These works, focused on the Thessaly and Central Greece regions, are slated for completion by 2026 and include repairs to the Athens–Thessaloniki line, the Domokos–Kranona section, and various single-track lines.

Additionally, a separate €170 million project aims for the full functional restoration of the Athens–Thessaloniki axis, including signaling, ETCS, and electrification. The government is working to meet strict Recovery and Resilience Facility deadlines to ensure the continued disbursement of funds, while also seeking further financing through programs like the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
