Deutsche Bahn to resume Ammergaubahn service in December

Deutsche Bahn has announced that train services on the Ammergaubahn between Murnau and Oberammergau are expected to resume in mid-December. The section has been closed since late June due to a defective railway embankment.

According to Deutsche Bahn, the embankment subsided after a prolonged period of heat caused the ground to dry out significantly. Maintenance work is scheduled to begin in mid-October to restore optimal track alignment, stabilize the ground, and renew the track superstructure.

During the closure, passengers can use rail replacement bus services. While this phase aims to restore service by the end of the year, further modernization work on other sections of the line is planned for 2027.
