Deutsche Bahn to shut Lehrte‑Berlin rail line for ten months in 2027

Deutsche Bahn announced that the 227‑kilometre Lehrte–Berlin railway corridor will be closed entirely from 5 February to 10 December 2027. The shutdown is intended for extensive renovations, including the replacement of numerous switches, renewal of tracks and installation of new noise‑protection walls. During the closure, travel times on the route will be longer and replacement services will be organised, with details to be provided by the railway shortly.

The same corridor‑sanitisation programme also includes a planned full closure of the Bremen‑Bremerhaven line between 9 July and 11 December 2027. The modernisation effort is part of Deutsche Bahn’s broader strategy to improve punctuality and reliability on heavily used rail corridors.
