Deutsche Bank appointed as first RMB clearing bank for Europe

Deutsche Bank has been appointed by the People's Bank of China as a renminbi (RMB) clearing bank for Europe. This designation makes it the first European institution to receive this mandate.

The bank will facilitate end-to-end processing, clearing, and settlement of cross-border transactions denominated in yuan for European financial institutions and companies. By acting as a local link to Chinese payment systems, the move is intended to provide direct access to China's internal financial system, including capital markets and liquidity infrastructure.

This initiative is part of broader efforts by Beijing to internationalize the renminbi and reduce reliance on the US dollar-dominated global payment system. The appointment is also expected to strengthen Frankfurt's position as a global financial hub and improve access to reliable offshore RMB liquidity across Europe.
