Deutsche Bank settles €152 million lawsuit with former executive

Deutsche Bank has reached an out-of-court settlement to resolve a €152 million lawsuit brought by a former investment banker, Dario Schiraldi. The legal dispute was scheduled for hearing at the Frankfurt District Court this week, but the proceedings were canceled after the plaintiff withdrew the claim.

Schiraldi sought damages for alleged harm to his career resulting from a criminal investigation in Italy involving derivative and repurchase transactions conducted with Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena during the 2008 financial crisis. The plaintiff claimed the bank used him as a “scapegoat” following scrutiny of its accounting methods.

While the specific financial terms of the settlement remain confidential, Deutsche Bank stated that the resolution is expected to have only a minor financial impact on its third-quarter 2026 accounts. The bank continues to face other legal challenges related to these historical transactions, with four similar proceedings currently pending in London involving claims that could exceed €700 million.
