Deutsche Bundesbank data shows average income by age

According to the 2023 wealth survey published by the Deutsche Bundesbank in April 2025, income levels vary significantly by age group. Individuals aged 16 to 24, who are often still in training or university, earn an average annual gross income of approximately 17,200 euros, or just over 1,400 euros per month.

As individuals enter the professional workforce, salaries increase. The 25 to 34 age group earns an average of approximately 51,500 euros gross per year, which equates to roughly 4,300 euros per month. Additionally, financial guidelines such as the Green formula suggest that by age 20, individuals should ideally have saved about one-quarter of their annual income.
